How To Get Rid Of Dark Circles and Bags Under The Eyes

What Causes Baggy Eyes and Dark circles Under The Eyes?

Some people are under the impression that dark circles under the eyes are only caused by not getting enough sleep. While this is one reason we can get them, there are many other reasons too.

What causes under the eye dark circles, bags and under the eye puffiness? The skin directly below the eye is thin and doesn’t have as many oil glands as the rest of the body’s skin. As we age, this can lead to the veins in the area beneath the eye appearing more prominently.

As already stated, not getting enough sleep is a major reason for dark circles and baggy eyes. If this is the only reason you get them, it should be easy enough to tell. Do you only get them when you feel tired and have gotten less than eight hours of sleep or do you have them every day no matter how well rested you are? This is the easiest problem to fix. Just stop staying up late and try to get more rest. I know, easier said than done, but try anyway.

Not drinking enough water and using too much salt can also cause dark circles and bags under the eyes. Your circulation can be reduced by not staying well hydrated. If you consume too much salt your body may also retain water in unusual places, like under your eyes. This can cause the blood vessels under the skin to appear bluer. The recommended daily intake of water is at least eight glasses. I personally drink spring water and also fresh juices each day. Stay away from the junk food type of juice that’s loaded with sugar. Fresh squeezed is best. If you do have your own juicer, start using it again. Don’t forget to cut back on the salt too.

Using too much alcohol and or recreational drugs can defiantly cause baggy eyes and dark under eye circles. Besides being bad for your health in general, they can disturb your sleeping patterns. Also smoking can cause dark circles too by quickly depleting your vitamin C levels. So try to cut down or eliminate these if possible. It’s very important that you get enough vitamin C so the skin can produce collagen. Without vitamin C, the collagen cannot be synthesized and this is what the skin needs to give it support and stability.

Rubbing your eyes may also cause the dark circles by not only irritating your skin but also by breaking the tiny capillaries directly beneath the skin which can lead to both puffiness and discoloration. For some people, rubbing the eyes is just a habit. Try the best you can not to do it. Now that you are aware of it, you may find it easier to catch yourself before rubbing.

Allergies. Do you get the dark circles and especially the bags and puffiness when you’re around animals, cut grass or when you eat a certain kind of food. Allergies are the reason for baggy eyes and dark circles for many people and they don’t even know it. If you do suspect you have an allergy to something, see your doctor and try to get the proper treatment for it as soon as possible.

Nutritional imbalances and the lack of vitamins and minerals in your diet. Make sure you are eating the healthiest diet possible. Antioxidants are very important for your skin. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and raw vegetables each day. Not only will this improve your overall health, but it’ll go a long way to reducing the dark circles and bags under your eyes. It will also help to give you a nice healthy complexion. Supplement your diet with a high quality multi-vitamin and an antioxidant supplement every day.

How To Remove Dark Circles and Bags Under Eyes

Don’t give up yet. There are some things you can do to reduce or remove those dark under eye circles and baggy eyes. One effective treatment is to take two used tea bags and squeeze them out. Let them cool. Lie on your back and put one on each eye, making sure to achieve good contact with the skin under the eye. Of course, first close your eyes to avoid getting an eye full of tea. Leave the tea bags on your eyes for ten to fifteen minutes. The effects are noticeable. You’ll see less puffiness and dark under eye circles.

This dark under eye circle remedy works due to two things. One, the caffeine in tea helps to reduce water in the tissue around the eyes. Secondly, tea contains beneficial antioxidants. You may use black, white or green tea but not herbal tea as most herbal teas don’t contain caffeine.

Another under eye dark circle remedy is one you may have already heard of but it is effective. You guessed it, cucumber. Take a fresh cucumber and cut two “quarter inch” thick slices. Apply to the eyes in the same manner as described with the tea bag remedy. Don’t use too thick of slices or they won’t bend enough to make complete contact with the skin around the eye. If you’d rather, you may also slice some cucumber and squeeze the juice into a cup. Rub this fresh juice onto the skin under the eye. Don’t get the juice in your eyes. It will sting.

You can also us slices of potato. Potatoes are good for getting rid of dark circles. They contain an enzyme that lightens the skin. Even better, use your juicer to juice equal parts of cucumber and raw potato, soak two cotton balls in this juice and place them over your closed eyes for fifteen minutes. Make sure you rub the juice on the skin under the eye too.

Too much exposure to the direct rays of the sun can also cause dark eye circles. It’s very important to always wear a high SPF sunscreen lotion on your face if you are going to be outdoors for any length of time. Be sure to wear sun glasses too. Make sure they are big enough to cover the area around the eyes well.

Another remedy you can try is to place two spoons in the refrigerator long enough to get them really cold. Place the round back of the spoons on the skin under each eye. Don’t press too hard. A cool wet wash cloth is also sometimes used to cool the skin under the eyes. This will reduce the puffiness.

Here’s an easy one. Take a teaspoon of tomato juice, a half teaspoon of lemon juice and a pinch of flour. Mix it into a paste and apply under eyes. Let it sit for ten minutes and wash it off with cool water.
